Helping You Get Unstuck

Aetna, BCBS, MedCost, UHC + State Health Plan
50 to 55 minute sessions
Veterans, military + first responders
I am the “what you see is what you get” type of therapist. The person you meet in session is the same person you will meet at the dog park, in the check-out line at the grocery store, or at the bus stop.
I’m very direct and to the point, while often using humor to remind myself and others that “we get to choose” how we are going to show up in this world.
That said, I prefer to use a positive, strengths-based, solution-oriented approach with my clients to help them get “unstuck.”
The way I see it, it’s like driving a car and getting a tire stuck in the mud. You know you’re stuck! Taking your eyes off the problem in order to see the resources (solutions) that are available to give you the leverage you need to get unstuck may be just what the situation is calling for.
A lot of my work has been with people who carry heavy things for a living. I’ve worked with active-duty military, veterans, law enforcement, and other first responders, along with the partners and families who carry it alongside them. I know that asking for help can feel like the last thing you’re supposed to do in those roles, so I won’t make it weird. We’ll talk plainly, figure out what’s actually going on, and work on what you want to be different.
My main areas of focus are trauma and PTSD, marriage and premarital counseling, and family conflict. I also help with anxiety, depression, stress, codependency, self-esteem, and the relationship patterns that keep tripping people up. I’m LGBTQIA+ affirming, and I’ve supported many people working through the effects of domestic violence and finding their footing again.
As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, I work with individuals 15 and up, couples, and families. I hold a Master of Arts in Marriage and Family Therapy from Northcentral University (now National University) and a BS in Psychology from the University of North Dakota, and I’m a member of AAMFT. All of my sessions are virtual, so you can meet with me from anywhere in North Carolina or South Carolina.

What to expect in your first session
Mostly, it’s me getting to know you. There’s no pressure to have it all figured out, and if we’re not the right fit, I’ll help you find someone who is.
